Biography

I’m a PhD student in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, where I’m advised by Richard Camilli. I’m affiliated with the AeroAstro department at MIT and the Applied Ocean Sciences and Engineering (AOSE) department at WHOI. My research is funded in part by the NASA FINESST research grant, the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and the Link Foundation Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Fellowship.

Prior to grad school, I studied robotics engineering at Olin College, where I spent a lot of time working on autonomous tractors and a VR-based control room for underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) pilots. My experiences at Olin and my semester abroad with SEA cultivated my interest in the intersection between technology and ocean exploration. Through my research, I hope to improve the perception systems for deep-sea robotic arms to enable safe remote operation.
